Overall, he has consistently practiced meditation for over ten years, teaching many others along the way, including fellow counselors.

In what Barry calls a prior life, he was a City Manager or Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of local government entities. He holds a Masters Degree in Administration, emphasizing City Management, from the University of Kansas. Over the years, he oversaw multi-million dollar projects and daily city operations, being noted as a creative and unorthodox leader. Initially, appointed as the City Manager of Hollister, California at the age of 30, it was reported that he was the youngest in the State at that time. He went on to serve as the City Manager of the Cities of Imperial Beach, and Solana Beach respectively, before switching careers to work as a counselor.

Barry’s own childhood could be termed somewhat challenging. Raised by a single parent father, who died when Barry was eleven, a sister was appointed as his guardian. He would also eventually spend time living with his birth mother as well. Meanwhile, Barry engaged in at-risk behaviors and bounced around to many different schools, thirteen total before high school graduation. He survived all that and somehow always managed good grades in school, going on to receive college scholarships.

Today, with his unique background, Barry loves to help people with their therapeutic and life transition needs. He enjoys sharing what he knows about personal transformation, change and how mastery of our own minds plays a large role in not just navigating life, but maximizing our joy of life.

From a more technical perspective, Barry practices a blend of therapies which are tailored to each client’s unique needs. Primarily, his approach is informed by: cognitive behavioral therapy; mindfulness; brief solution focused therapy and motivational interviewing.
“Many seek counseling support for some combination of: Healing, Progress, Empowerment
and / or Tranquility”
